Essie Shine of the Times

Essie Shine of the Times over Orly Charged Up.

A flakie is what the Nailluminati call a glitter made of shards or larger pieces. Shine of the Times is an iridescent flakie from the Essie Holiday 2011 Luxe Effects collection. Unfortunately it has been discontinued, but I was so glad to find a bottle on Amazon!

BUYER BEWARE: My first quest for a flakie online led me to purchase Color Club Snow Globe, but it underwent a formula change (like Pacific Blue), and the micro-glitter version arrived instead. Sally Hansen Pearly Whites is the only big brand flakie I’ve found in circulation at stores but you have to layer it a ton to get the same effect as above. As far as independent brands go, I have found a few options on Etsy, so all hope is not lost!

This about sums it up: Definitely worth the wait (hunted a bit) and the extra cost to finally see this effect in person! Look on Etsy for comparable iridescent flakies in unique polish colors.

Nailluminati Status: Flakie Find level achieved

Do you have a flakie nail polish you love? Or are you glad this trend has passed? Tell me about it in the comments!
